Avraham Chelly
Lab Manager
Avi finished his M.Sc. thesis in Physical Chemistry and Material Engineering at the Universite Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg, France, in 1992. He received his Ph.D. degree in Solid State Physics at the Universite de Haute Alsace, Mulhouse, France, in 1997. He did a post-doctoral work on microelectronics processing in the Graduate Schoool of Applied Science – Applied Physics Department, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, in 1999, Supervised by Prof. J. Shappir.
Zeyu Wang
M.Sc. Student
In 2020, Zeyu joined the group as a MSc student. His research focused on developing techniques for detecting tiny magnetic fields using SQUIDs. Zeyu is currently completing his PhD in the group of Nadav Shnerb at Bar Ilan University.
Inbar Shani
M.Sc. Student
Inbar received her BSc in Physics from Bar Ilan University in 2018.
In 2019, Inbar joined the group as a MSc student. Her research focused on the coupling of a spin with a squeezed resonator. Inbar is currently completing her PhD in the group of Ofer Firstenberg at Weizmann Institute.
Tamir Cohen
M.Sc. Student
Tamir joined the group as a MSc student in 2019. His research focused on tunable superconducting flux qubits with long coherence time. Tamir is currently completing his PhD at Soreq Nuclear Center.
Paul Brookes
PhD student
Paul graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2015 with an MSc in Physics. He then joined the Quantum Technologies doctoral programme at University College London where he completed an MRes in 2016 with a dissertation on bistability and qubit readout under the supervision of Professor Marzena Szymanska and Dr Eran Ginossar. Paul did half of his PhD in Israel, where he has worked under the supervision of Michael Stern. He completed his thesis in 2020 on protection of quantum information and nonlinear dynamics in superconducting circuits.
Itamar Holzman
PhD student
Itamar received his BSc in Materials Science and Engineering and BSc in Physics from the Technion in 2017. He then did his MSc thesis on superconducting nanostructures under the supervision of Yachin Ivry at the Technion (https://ivry.net.technion.ac.il/) . Itamar did his PhD thesis at Bar Ilan University under the supervision of Michael Stern.
Tikai Chang
PhD student
Tikai graduated from Ecole Polytechnique in 2015 with a joint master’s degree with Ecole Normale Supérieur Paris on Quantum Physics (Centre International de Physique Fondamentale). He did his master’s thesis on superconducting flux qubits in the Quantronics group at Saclay and his PhD at Bar Ilan University under the supervision of Michael Stern. Despite having chosen physics as his career, he retains a strong interest for computer science and likes to participate in programming competitions (such as Google Hash Code/ Google Code Jam) in his spare time. Tikai is currently cofounder of Qolumbus, a promising start-up developing a new generation of quantum processors.
Ofek Ben-Yeheskel
B.Sc Student
Ofek is an undergraduate student in Physics and Mathematics at Technion. He joined very recently the lab to work on superconducting qubits.
Gosha Vtorygin
M.Sc. Student
Gosha has completed his BSc degree in Physics in Alferov University, Russia. Shorty after the graduation, he moved to Israel and volunteered as a research assistant at M. Mussel lab at the University of Haifa. Currently, he is graduate student at the Technion working at M. Stern lab aspiring to a modest contribution to the technological singularity.
Cijy Mathai
postdoc
Dr. Cijy Mathai received her PhD degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (India) in 2019. She moved to Israel in 2019 to make a postdoctoral research work at Technion with Eyal Buks. Her current work involves generating squeezed states in order to improve qubit readout fidelity in circuit QED systems.
Michael Stern
Group Leader
Michael graduated from Ecole Centrale Paris in 2000 with a specialization in Electrical Engineering. He did his PhD in the field of semiconductor physics at Weizmann Institute in the group of Prof. Israel Bar-Joseph and a post-doc in mesoscopic physics working on superconducting circuits in the Quantronics group at Saclay. Michael has been Senior Lecturer at Bar Ilan University since 2015 and moved his lab to Technion in 2025.
