Muhammad Akashi<\/strong>, Efrat Sabach<\/strong>, Ohad Yogev<\/strong> and I\u00a0suggest that clumpy-dense outflowing equatorial rings\u00a0around evolved giant stars,\u00a0such as in sup<\/span>\"zAkashi2015\"ernova 1987A and the Necklace planetary nebula, are formed by bipolar jets\u00a0<\/span>that compress gas toward the equatorial plane. The jets are launched from an accretion disk around a stellar companion.\u00a0The jets account also for the presence of a bipolar nebula accompanying many of the rings.
