2-Group Global Symmetries

Symmetries of QFTs are naturally organized into n-form symmetries, according to the dimensionality of the operators they act on. After reviewing the concept of Generalized Global Symmetries, I will describe more intricate structures symmetries can form: 2-Groups. The presentation will be tailored to discrete symmetries, and I will introduce the language of symmetry defects. Finally, I will discuss ‘t Hooft anomalies of 2-group global symmetries and some aspects of RG flows. Various concrete examples will be provided.
