Gravitational waves from ultra-relativistic collisions: zero-frequency limit and beyond
I will summarize recent work on the spectrum of gravitational waves emitted in transplanckian-energy collisions at leading order in the deflection angle.
A classical and a quantum calculation give identical results and show the emergence of a characteristic break in the spectrum at a frequency which anti-scales with the energy of the collision just like the associated Hawking temperature would do. I will also compare the results to those expected from soft-graviton theorems at sub and sub-sub leading order pointing at some yet unresolved puzzles.
