Title | A quantum critical point controls the nature of the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition in two dimensional superconductors |
Abstract (text only) | Ever since it was realized that the Berezinski-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) transition is possible in two dimensional superconductors, some questions regarding the nature of the transition has remained a matter of discussion. Over the last decade it has become more and more apparent that some of the features of this transition cannot be merely attributed to the disorder in the system. We present theoretical results and arguments to claim that a quantum critical point (QCP) and the fluctuations associated with it control the nature of the BKT transition in clean two dimensional superconductors. This physics is likely to remain relevant for thin film superconductors realizable in experiments. |
