Constraining the double-degenerate scenario for Type Ia supernovae from merger ejected matter (August 2014)

August 19, 2014 //  by Noam Soker

With student Naveh Levanon and Enrique Garcia-Berro (Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya) we followed the mass blown during the WD-WD merger process in the Double-Degenerate (DD) scenario for type Ia supernovae (SN Ia), and find that the interaction of the SN ejecta with this wind affects the early (<1 day) light curve in a way that may contradict observations, if the detonation occurs during or shortly after the merger (<1 day).
