The research in our lab lies at the interface between soft matter physics, materials physics and non-linear dynamics. We study out of equilibrium mechanical systems in which complexity emerges due to the coupling of a large range of spatial and temporal scales. How friction starts; how materials break; and how crystals flow are examples of such problems.
